Examination of Canakkale's tradional pot and jug forms and a ceramic exhibition

Ceramics of Çanakkale region known as the Dardanelles, which has an important place in the history of Turkish Ceramics, has taken its place in traditional ceramic art with its unique form and decor techniques. Due to the geopolitical location of the city of Dardanelles, these ceramics were delivered to many European countries by sea using the Dardanelles Strait. In the first part of this two-part study, the period from 17th century to 20th century Çanakkale Ceramics is generally discussed. In addition, jug and pitcher forms of Çanakkale Ceramics are examined in detail. With their exuberant colors and appliqued reliefs on the forms, they stand out. After shaping more than a single form on the potter's wheel, the pouring and brush strokes seen on the jug and pitcher forms leap to the eye. These jugs and pitchers, which have culturally interesting symbolic significancy among the people, appear with different meanings in birth traditions. Traditional form productions have continued until mass production began in the second half of the 20th century. Many examples of these pieces are found in museums, collections and antique shops today. In the second part of the study, the importance of fish, which is also a symbol of abundance and fertility and carries many different meanings in all Abrahamic religions, is briefly indicated with examples from Anatolia and mythology. The form and decoration techniques seen in Çanakkale ceramics are also referenced and the images of the exhibition works in fish forms are created.
