Examination of traditional Turkish house architecture: Case of Düzce-Konuralp

Traditional architecture is a concept that is based on the physiological requirements of individuals, accessibility to construction materials, and the reflection of local traditions. Considered on both local and global scale, works of traditional architecture are built taking into account social, cultural, economic, ecologic, and psychological parameters. In this context, it is of high importance, in terms of cultural heritage, to study the traditional architectural works that have preserved their authenticity to date in our country that has rich geography and history. In research; 12 registered and 1 unregistered traditional houses selected from among civil architectural houses that have preserved their authenticity in Konuralp neighborhood of Düzce city, were examined in order to provide a source for future researches and determine the similarities of the traditional Turkish house architectural features. As a result of the information obtained from the houses examined, it was determined that the plan-type, facade properties, construction system and material preference that formed under the influence of building-street relationship, geographical, social and historical factors were similar to the concept of traditional Turkish Houses.
