Abstract (EN)

The ancient Egyptian history and culture of the country are manifested in its ancient architecture that truly represents the originality, creativity, and depth of the Egyptian people. This thesis focuses on the analysis of building materials of seven villas in Robua village in the vicinity of Tunis Village in Fayoum Oasis, as an example of the fabric of the traditional Egyptian architecture. With a focused investigation on the application of conventional construction materials at Robua & Tunis Villages as a way of identifying the inherent cultural, environmental, and functional values that withhold within locality building practices. Famous for its distinctive ceramics and classic architecture, provides a unique lens for how local resources, such as mudbrick, claybrick, stone, and natural wood, can lead to sustainable building practices. Through field observations, interviews and material analysis, this study exemplifies the climatic benefits of conventional materials, such as durability, minimal environmental impact, and heat regulation. It also addresses the difficulties of keeping traditional practices alive under the pressure of modernization, which means to integrate traditional materials with modern ones. The thesis presents the claim that traditional materials are a means of maintaining airs of culture and transferring sustainability, by offering an approach to revive vernacular architecture.
