Abstract (EN)

Blue dyed textiles, traditional dying and printing techniques applied on a plain undyed woven fabric with İndigofera tinctoria and isatis tinctoria which has a highly deep tradition in blue dying process has been analised in this study. On the other hand it made an expansion on the belief systems has been believed that blue colorant has mistique , magical power and symbolic codes with socio cultural perspective .?Based on The Traditional İndigo Dyed Textiles and Applications of Contemporary? thessis study constituent on three parts. First chapter totally based on the plant dying research, structure and nurture of these vegetable dyes, plant classification of major blue dying plants ,traditional vat indigo dying systems through ancient era with the topic ? Plant Sources And Specialities of The Natural Dyes Used for Blue Color?. Indigo vat dying process have been implemented as ritüel on different cultures and continents . The major charastheristic of this kind of dying is the fascinating color changing starting from yellow green through dark night blue during the oxidation which the fabric first immersed in the dye path and then faced with air .The color shades differs according to the immersion timing that how much they are in the vat and it depends on how many times the textile fibers are immersed in the vat for dying . For that reason, infinite blue color shades maturity have been classified light to dark in order to perform a 7 shade blue color scale and have been scrutinized in this chapter. On Second chapter heading Dying and Printing Technics on Indigo Dyed Textiles explained by the contamination that indigo dyed textiles caused during long continental trade routes and by examining the application techniques, material ,dye receipts ,processes and design period of production well supported with the images. The third chapter includes informations about the organizations that amed interpretation of the indigo natural dying process , research projects , dying centers and natural dying symposiums which underlined the importance and the situation at present .Vegetable dying sources used in indigo dying process and the design, production techniques, field of application, symbolic codes between cultures , mutual affect on continents and the situation on natural dying on 21th century have systematically and cronologically been examined.
