ABSTRACT. ANTTTUMORAL AND APOPTOTIC EFFECTS OF GEMCITABINE (dFdC) AND INTERFERON-a in ERYTHROLEUKEMIA CELL LINE K562 AND P-GLYCOPROTEIN (+) MULTIDRUG RESISTANT VARIANT K562/DOX Mehtap KILIÇ M. S. in Biotechnology Adviser: Prof. Dr. Kayahan FIŞKIN Gemcitabine (dFdC) is a new nucleoside analog which exhibits substantial activity against solid tumors such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma that are well known for their poor response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In this study, antitumor apoptotic effects of gemcitabine in both erythroleukemia cell lines parental drug sensitive P- glycoprotein (-) K562 and its miultidrug resistant variant K562/Dox were evaluated. It was found that gemcitabine is more effective in K562 than in K562/Dox.
