Abstract (EN)
In order to preserve and sustain cultural heritage, it must be transferred to future generations with all its elements. While this transfer strengthens the bonds of societies with their past and increases the sense of belonging to that society, it also prevents the disappearance of cultures. There is a direct proportion between modernization and conservation awareness in the world. It is seen that societies that are conscious of protecting their cultural heritage, is ahead on the way of modernization and have a voice in science and art. It is important that people who are followed by the society take part in raising the awareness of cultural heritage in societies. The participation of athletes in the promotion of cultural heritage, like famous people in the focus of the media, will contribute to the increase of cultural heritage awareness of the society. Considering the fact that sports is a social and cultural activity, first of all, it is necessary to carry out studies that will contribute to increasing the awareness of the cultural heritage of the athletes. The purpose of the study is to ensure that young athletes are informed about cultural heritage. In this context, the study aims to reveal a social media and infographic-based activity methodology in the process of increasing the awareness of young athletes about cultural heritage. While the criterion sampling method was used in the research, the criterion was determined as being a registered student in official sports high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and the study was carried out with 210 athletes. The study was designed using a single-group pre-test-post-test design, one of the experimental designs. In the study, firstly, a pre-test was applied to the athletes, secondly, the infographics that introduced the cultural heritages in Turkey, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, were shared on social media and then the post-test was applied. The obtained data were interpreted by transferring them to the IBM SPSS STATISTICS 22.0 ready statistical program through frequency, T test and ANOVA test. As a result of the study, it was reached that the event contributed to the increase of the cultural heritage knowledge of the athletes.
