Examination of the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety and procrastination behaviors in young unemployed adult

This study's aim is to reveal the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, anxiety and procrastination behaviors in young unemployed adult. Besides, the effects of variables such as individuals' employment status, sex and age on being intolerant to uncertainty, anxiety and procrastination. 170 employed and 170 unemployed individuals, who are university graduates and live in Istanbul, were participated to the research. Also, according to identify individuals' demographic characteristics Personal Information Form, and to evaluate variables, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, State Anxiety Scale, Trait Anxiety Scale and General Procrastination Scale are applied. Unpaired T Test, Correlation and Regression Analysis are used in the analysis of data. When the socio-demographic characteristics analyzed, it is found out that unemployed individuals have higher scores on state anxiety and general procrastination scales than employed ones. As the age of working individuals increases; intolerance of uncertainty (total score), state-trait anxiety scale scores decrease. In addition, it is seen that as unemployed individuals' scores on state anxiety and trait anxiety scales increase, their scores on impatience to uncertainty (total score) scales increase too.
