Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to investigate the relation between young adults? child rearing attitudes and their perception of parental behaviour. The area covered in this research is the independent preschools in İzmir, namely districts of Karşıyaka, Bornova, Konak, Buca, Balçova and Narlıdere. The subjects matters consist of the parents of students between the age of 3 and 6 who attended independent preschools. For the selection of the schools and while applying the criterion, the techniques that were applied are `random and layeved-ambitrary sampling method? in order. The Personal Information Form prepared to collect data for this research has been evaluated by using the following: `Parental Attitude Research Instrument? and `Perceived Parenting Questionnaire?.The quantitive data collected in this research, is analyzed by using average standard deviation, one way anova, correlation coefficient. For the statistical analyses SPSS (Statistical Packages of Social Science) version 13.0 was used.The statistical analyses has indicated that as the education level of parents increases the explanation of the reasons for the restriction and punishment conducts becomes important in their own children?s perceived discipline methods, they act more restraining, they become more disjointed among themselves and they prefer to apply strict discipline measures. Working parents tend to perceive being more restrictive and disciplinary as important. Moreover, the parents who have grown up in a crowded families with many brothers and sisters tend to show increased restrictive and firm disciplinarian attitudes. The poverty experienced, especially through the father, seems to be influential in child rearing.
