Abstract (EN)
Aim: Nosocomial infections cause longer hospitalization and serious socioeconomic considerations. Surgical site infections (SSI) constitute significant part of nosocomial infections. In our study, we aim to detect frequency of SSI and define risk factors for SSI in Department of Surgery Clinic.Patients and method: 469 patients followed between February - April 2010 included to the study. SSİ was described as incisional (Superficial/deep) and organ/space infection according to the National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance (NNIS) recommendations. The patients followed with a form at 2. 7. 30. days postoperatively for developing SSI. The statistically analyzes made by x2 , t test and multivariate forward stepwise logistic regression.Results: Surgical site infections developed in 65 (%13.9) of total 469 patients. 39 (60.0%) of the patients were males; 16 (24.6%) were normal, 49 (75.3%) were over weighted; 33 (50.8%) had malignancy; 47 (72.3%) had surgical prophylaxis. SSI developed in 18 (%8) of 226 clean, 33 (%16.8) of 197 clean-contaminated, two (%28.6) of seven contaminated, 12 (%30.8) of 39 infected operations. Duration of operation was ?3 hours in 36 (55.3%) patients. Feeding was started in 55 (84.6%) patients within first 24 hours. 61 (93.8%) patients had urinary catheterization and 52.3% (22/42) patient had ALP/GGT height. Gender, body mass index, duration of operation, postoperative late enteral feeding, urinary catheterization and liver deficiency were significantly risk factors for SSI after logistic regression analyzes were made.Conclusion: In this study SSI frequency was find same with literature. But we found that inappropriate antibiotic prophylaxis and risk factors associated with health care play role in high rates of SSI in clean and clean/contaminated operations. These data would be helpful in preventing SSI and necessary preventions in our hospital.Key words: Surgical site infection, surveillance, surgery, risk factors
