ABSTRACTDESIGN OF WIRE ANTENNAS USING GENETIC ALGORITHMSemanur KırıcıBaşkent University Institute of ScienceDepartment of Electrical and Electronics EngineeringIn this work, various wire antennas are designed using genetic algorithm. Geneticalgorithms are probabilistic search methods based on the principles of Darwin?snatural selection and evolution theory. Solving a problem with genetic algorithmrequires the problem to be passed through evolutionary process virtually. Todesign a wire antenna with genetic algorithm, the designer determines the desiredelectromagnetic properties, defines the limits of the problem then the algorithmfinds the optimum solution.Genetic algorithm softwares are developed on MATLAB® environment for thesedesigns. Electromagnetic simulation program called SuperNEC, which analysesantennas by the method of moments, is used to determine antenna performances.Genetic algorithm sends antenna parameters to SuperNEC. SuperNEC simulateseach of these antennas and places the simulation results indicating the antennaperformances in a file. Genetic algorithm reads the required parameter values andscores.
