Turkey, Singapore, Finland and USA in the context of the learning field of geometry and measurement 5-8. comparison of grades mathematics teaching programs

Elementary and middle school mathematics curricula are an important part of a child's education, as they form the foundation for their future mathematical understanding. The main purpose of this research is the 5-8th grade schools in the USA, Finland, Singapore and Turkey. The aims of the geometry and measurement learning area included in the 5th grade mathematics curriculum, the acquisitions it contains, the distribution of the acquisitions according to the grade levels, and the similarities and differences of their contents are compared according to the countries. The research is a descriptive study designed in the general survey model. Document analysis was used as a data collection tool. The USA, Finland, Singapore and Turkey mathematics curricula and general information about the countries were obtained from the official websites of the countries. The obtained data were analyzed and compared with the content analysis method. When the research results are examined; the geometry and measurement learning outcomes and sub-learning areas of the studied countries are generally similar in the country programs examined. All programs have associated the achievements with daily life, but the country that gives the achievements directly in relation to daily life is the USA. It has been determined that the general objectives of the USA, Finland, Singapore and Turkey secondary school geometry and measurement learning field are the general objectives of the Turkish mathematics curriculum and the USA mathematics curriculum, the general objectives of the secondary school level geometry and measurement learning field, while Singapore and Finland have only general objectives in the curricula. has been done. While the achievements related to the field of geometry and measurement learning are examined under the title of "geometry" in the Finnish mathematics curriculum and in the USA mathematics curriculum, they are given under the title of "geometry and measurement" in the Turkey and Singapore mathematics curriculum. Measurement achievements in the Finnish and USA mathematics curriculum are also included in the scope of the "measurement" heading. 5-8 among countries. Turkey is the country with the most geometry and measurement learning outcomes at grade level. Although the number of gains is high, it is approximately the same depth as other countries in terms of content. The country with the lowest number of gains is America. In addition to this information, similar and different aspects in the curriculum of both countries are given in detail and suggestions are presented to researchers who will conduct research in this field.
