The relationship between nutritional status of pregnancy diagnosis and the levels of knowledge about the disease and nutrition

This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between the nutritional status of Pregnants with Gestational Diabetes and their knowledge levels about the disease and nutrition. In this context, it was carried out on 211 pregnant women between the ages of 19-45 years who were diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes in Ankara Etlik Zübeyde Hanım Gynecology Training and Research Hospital between January 2021 and July 2021. Pregnant women with known pre-pregnancy diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2), multiple pregnancies, and diabetes complications were not included in the study. The questionnaire form, in which the participants were questioned about their personal information (age, education status, occupation), medical information, anthropometric measurements (height, pre-pregnancy body weight, body weight at the time of the interview, gestational weeks) was filled by the researcher by face-to-face interview method. Accordingly, as the scores of pregnant women with gestational diabetes received from the GDM Knowledge Level Questionnaire and the sub-dimensions of knowledge about risk factors and information about GDM complications/results in the survey, the scores they got from the sub-dimension of Food Preference in the YETBİD Scale also increased. It was determined that there was no statistically significant correlation between the scores of the pregnant women in the Food Preference sub-dimension in the YETBİD Scale and the scores they got from the sub-dimensions of basic information about GDM, information about diet/nutritional values and information about GDM management in the GDM Knowledge Level Questionnaire. According to the findings obtained after the analyzes made, there was a statistically significant difference between the scores of the pregnant women with gestational diabetes who participated in the study from the Food Preference sub-dimension in the YETBİD Scale and the scores they got from the GDM Knowledge Level Questionnaire in general and the information about risk factors and information about GDM complications/results sub-dimensions in the survey and positive correlations were found.
