The travel- observation and analysis method on student achievement about the sources of our country unit in 6th grade social studies curriculum

The aim of this study is to determine the Effect Of Traditional Instruction Method On Student Achievement About The Sources Of Our Country Unit In 6th Grade Social Studies Curriculum.The experimental study of the survey has taken place in the second half of the 2007-2008 school year. The participants of the study were 56 Students who were all 6. grade elementary students, and had the same course instructor, were selected as samples from the Gülüç Vesile Dikmen Tarman Elementary Scool in Karadeniz Ereğli in Zonguldak. The control group was taught on the topic ?The economical activities in our countyr? in the traditonal telling method, where as the experimental group was taught the topic in respect to travel- observation- analysis method. A pre-test and a post test was applied on the control group during the experiment. The data of the experiment was examined and collected under the topics ?The economical activities in our countyr? performance test, pre- test, final test.While doing the data analysis, the SSPS 15,0 programme has been used, the level of expediency has been considered as P=0,05. Also the t-test of relevant samples and the t-test of irrelevant samples have been applied in the data analysis. The statistical results are:The achievement level of the students it has been seen that in sample and control groups about the economical activities in our country unit was low before the application.The experimental group students who were informed on the topic ?The economical activities in our countyr? through travel-observation-analysis method, have been more successful than the control group students who were informed on the topic through the traditional telling method.The instruction which was conducted by the traditional method was effective on increasing the achievement level of the students on this unit but it?s level was lower when compare with sample group.Key words: The Method of Travel- Observation and Analysis, Traditional Instruction Method, Social Studies Instruction
