Abstract (EN)
In this study, machinability tests of the bearing necks of cam shafts producedfrom GGG-70 grade spheroidal graphite cast iron and used in automotiveindustry were carried out.Depending on the selected machining parameters, the comparison of themachining test results according to the cutting forces and surface roughness wasaimed. In machining tests with the 9 µm CVD chemical vapour deposited TiCN-Al2O3-TiN multiple layer coated cementide carbide inserts in ISO K10 grade, positive and negative insert geometry were used. The tests were carried out atfour different cutting speeds ( 250, 275, 300 and 325 m/min), three different feedrates (0,15, 0,25 and 0,30 mm/rev) and two different cut depths (0.5 mm and2 mm) trough turning method without cutting fluid. In the experimental study, the cutting forces which are criterion in machinability was measured with adynamometer and the values of the surface roughness were measured andexamined. The effect of machining parameters on the surface roughness and thecutting force were explored and the values of the surface roughness werediscussed.Variation of cutting forces obtained from experiments and surface roughnessvalues were discussed using plotted graphics. The results show that modernviicutting tools used with right and optimum cutting values provided savings in thecosts at the important levels and make the production times shorten, besidesreveal that the costs of production decreases.Science code : 708.3.028Key Words : Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron, Cam shaft, Machinability,Dynamometer, Cutting forces, Surface roughnessPage number :101Adviser : Assist.
