Applications of adding dimension to the garment surface using fabric folding and gathering in apparel design

Today, modern life?s aspire to the new and different one, encourages the fashion designers to create aesthetic and creative forms through new techniques. In this process, three dimensional forms come into prominence and many techniques come up in shaping the garment surface three dimensional. Some of these techniques, fabric folding and gathering are main subjects of this thesis.In first section, the fundamentals of the visual elements in design and constituting form of the garment were mentioned. In second section, fabric folding and gathering were explained technically. And in third section, the subject of the thesis was supported with selected examples from new generation fashion designers? collections.In accordance with the examples that were analysed in this research; it is found as a conclusion that by using fabric folding and gathering, experimental design styles are coming forward. And additionally this new style brings a new dimension and deepness to the garment surface that enriches the design.
