Abstract (EN)
In the modern world, there may be as many as millions of different religious groups. While some of those groups are well-known religious groups whose aims and features are known, others have features similar to those of cults. Some of these cult-like religious groups hold large amounts of power in terms of bureaucracy, finances, and manpower. Although most of these groups do not pose any danger, they have the potential to cause serious danger in the event that they transform into terrorist organizations. In this thesis, the dangers of the cult-like religious groups has compared to traditional terrorist organizations and advantages that cult-like religious groups have in the event of their transformation into terrorist organizations are analyzed together with the transformation processes of those religious groups that do turn into terrorist organizations. Aum Shinrikyo is used as an illustrative example and the precautions that states can take against this sort of organization while staying within the general principles of law are discussed.
