Abstract (EN)

Humankind has put effort into understanding the universe since his existence and felt the necessity for positioning himself in the universe. The first humankind, who is defined as primitive, formed the term of myth and had a significant role in shaping today's archetype. The myths-making developed abstract thinking-way, which contributed to production of art. This study, which includes epic of Gilgamesh to example creation process of mythology and how this creation process reflects on today's art, focuses on painting art. As humankind's positioning himself in the nature and effort in being superior over the nature for ages has paved the way for development of culture, it has made distinction between human and nature more obvious. However, today, this distinction is seen to be interpreted more differently through modern human's mind and to be combined. Thus, how modern mind interprets the mythology has been tried to be conveyed and artists of 20th century has been analysed by means of artist-centred and work-of-art-centred approaches without adhering to any periods in art. The artists, who are mentioned in this study focusing on the cultural link between mythology and art, have been analysed based on material and in this respect, contributions have been provided to today's reading of epic of Gilgamesh by means of personal applications.
