Abstract (EN)
The world we live in has transformed into a place where the boundaries of time and borders are strict and certain to the one where it is possible to access all kinds of information, and globalization has gained more significance than ever in recent years. Today, the concept of globalization is discussed mainly in economic, political, cultural, social, and technological literature. Globalization reflects the tendencies explaining the current situation. As a very complex concept, each segment has attributed different meanings to globalization, and it has been explained with many approaches as the cause, result or solution of the circumstances. There is no positive or negative consensus on the consequences of globalization. There are many positive aspects such as its effects on increasing world welfare, providing information and culture sharing, reducing the differences among countries, and increasing intercultural interaction. These effects happen by providing structural transformation in many areas, and accelerating trade with technological developments. However, there are also negative opinions that globalization destroys subcultures, weakens the nation-states and can be even considered the modern era of colonialism. Consumers' adaptation to the globalization process over time and the removal of the limits in the information flow process have affected commerce and ways of doing business. Despite the fierce competition on a global scale, the courage of brands to enter different countries' markets and their enthusiasm for globalization are increasing day by day. Factors such as the reduction of foreign trade taxes, the priorities are given to increasing the international trade volume through trade agreements between countries, and the increase in information sharing with the widespread use of the internet plays an important role in this encouragement and desire. The brand-building process is formed with long and strategic planning. Brands become aware of that they also create "value" while producing products and services, and position these values as a means of accessing other countries and consumers with their brand identity. Brand identity, also known as brand equity, is the potential of the brand and the power to create the economic size behind its future potential. Especially multinational and global companies take into account the specific needs, cultural and socio-economic conditions of the countries in which they operate. It has been observed that some brands, which are recognized around the world, have turned into global brands with global policies and foreign investments, with "glocalization", which means taking local cultures into account and making them suitable while creating products and services suitable for global markets. When creating global brand strategies, the main concern is "how" other brands achieve their success rather than what they "do". While product positioning is an issue that the company can do with its own decisions in an area that it can control, brand positioning is an expectation that the final consumer will decide. For this reason, if the consumers do not position the brands in their minds as envisaged, the goals of the brands will not be fully accomplished. Sustainable growth and development can be achieved with brand value created with realistic product and brand positioning goals. Creating a permanent brand value for consumers by differentiating a product or service from its competitors in the branding process includes much more than the quality of the offered product. The main purpose of branding is to create brand culture, to convey all the characteristic features of the brand to the existing stakeholders and to reflect them to the consumer from all walks of life, culture and origin. Many factors such as the emotions that the consumer feels during the journey of experience from the moment of meeting the product to the decision to buy, the attitude of the social environment towards the brand belonging to that product and service, and the brand loyalty of the consumer play a role in the preference of that brand. To summarize, consumer expectation, and customer satisfaction is the factor that guides competitive strategies. Social media platforms have gained importance with the development of the internet. Nowadays, people's interest in social media has increased, and brands focus on branding opportunities on social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Youtube to promote their products and stay ahead of the competition. The need for rapid adaptation by digitalization has shaped the strategic priorities of the brands to create brand value for their products and services and to meet the expectations of the customers, and social media platforms have become the primary communication channels to reach the target audience. Deciding to purchase a product or service has accelerated with the influence of digital sales channels and social media. With the mutual interaction that social media provides between the consumer and the brand, these channels began to be accepted as new marketing channels. The need for brands to be present in the most efficient way in the social media that best suits their product, service, target audience and basic purposes has arisen. It is necessary to think of the social media universe as an integrated framework and to act according to separate goals and rules in each platform that constitutes this structure. The use of social media platforms by these companies and their sectoral distribution were examined in the study conducted by the Brand Finance (Brand Finance, 2020) research company on the 100 companies with the highest brand value globally and in our country. Companies operating in the banking, fashion, food, ready-made clothing and media sectors, which are in direct contact with their customers, use social media more actively and have higher follower numbers. These sectors are also the ones in which companies with the "Business to Customer" business model operate and the end consumer is reached without a mediator. Companies in sectors such as Construction, Construction, Defense, and Energy that do not have direct contact with the customer and have a business structure of "Business to Business" use social media on a limited basis. Among the business lines that are subject to marketing on social media platforms, food products are a product group that directly affects consumers, has an impact on large masses and is under the influence of many socio-economic and demographic factors. In addition, according to the report of the research company Brandwacth, in which consumers' social media usage and trends in the food and beverage sector are revealed, it is emphasized that consumers' preferences and tendencies are changing rapidly and it has become necessary for business owners and other stakeholders to have extensive information about consumers in such a variable area. Brands create profiles and identities with visual elements (colour, logo, slogan use) that reflect brand values in social media, carry out advertising and promotional activities, organize various competitions and campaigns, carry out sponsorship and social responsibility activities, cooperate with celebrities, and target their audience step by step. At this stage, the cultural, socioeconomic level and profile of the target audience gain importance to convey the brand personality correctly. The study aims to determine which cultural indicators global companies use in social media while maintaining their presence in different countries and to analyze which strategies they follow. First of all, within the scope of the literature study, some reports were examined by considering the change and development of marketing and branding in the globalizing world. Within the scope of global strategies, the concepts of globalization and localization were mentioned, the concept of "glocalization", which is positioned in the intersection of these two concepts, was emphasized, and the positive and negative effects of globalization were clustered. Starting from the history of marketing and branding, it has been considered how the marketing mix has changed over time. The concept of the brand, the development of brands in the international arena, and the development process of branding in our country have been researched, creating a global brand and glocalization strategies of globalizing brands have been mentioned. In this study, the relationship of creating brand value, which is one of the main topics of Marketing Communication, with local and global strategies was examined through the example of Godiva Chocolate. The history of the Godiva Chocolate brand, its development process and strategies after the brand merger, globalization and glocalization studies in social media channels were examined. The Godiva brand, which operates in more than 100 countries, shares different posts on social media channels in the countries where it operates, according to needs, expectations and cultural characteristics. The content analysis method was used while examining how Godiva's brand communication strategies were shaped. The reason why this method is preferred is that it is suitable for interdisciplinary use with its flexible structure. It is a research technique in which written, objective, systematic and quantitative definitions can be conducted. In this research, while applying the semiotic analysis content analysis method over Godiva's official Instagram accounts, first of all, how social media platforms are used by brands was examined by referring to the results of global research, and digitalization data in our country and all over the world were taken into consideration. In the research, the posts in the "Godiva Chocolate TR" and "Godiva Official" Instagram accounts that appeal to different markets and cultures were analyzed. The transformation of the world-famous brand Godiva Chocolate, which was acquired by Yıldız Holding in 2007, with the strategy of reaching a wider audience on the market shelves in 2016, has been reinforced with social media strategies that have become one of the main focuses of the brands after the pandemic, and its shares have been localized to appeal to the cultural values in the target audience in the region where it operates. While creating brand value. For this purpose, the social media shares of GODIVA between March 2021 and March 2022 were examined from the perspective of global and local impact. Instagram interaction rate calculation, users who follow GODIVA Turkey Instagram account in this social network. This rate is calculated by dividing the sum of the likes and comments by the total followers. Content interaction rate, as one of the evaluation criteria of social media content, allows for measuring how effective the shares on Instagram are and enables to determine of how compatible the content with the target audience is. The most interactive content was examined in the cultural context, and the similarities and differences between Godiva's Official Instagram Account and Godiva Turkey Social Media account posts were revealed. In social media content management, it has been examined whether cultural stereotypes and judgments are used, how the brands position themselves according to the country in which they operate, with the reflections of the socio-economic and cultural environment in which the country and geography are located. Despite global players such as Ülker Holding in the branding process, when the research is examined, there is a long way to go in the field of branding in our country. In addition, it is aimed to shed light on the goals of our local brands to become successful brands in the global market, to reveal which marketing communication methods and strategies should be given priority in social media and whether these methods fulfil their functions. It is objected that this study will be used in prospective research by drawing attention to all the indicators used by a brand in its social media content and advertisements within the scope of glocalization, especially by the brands in our country, and by conveying the overall brand communication strategies.
