Migrant women experiences on social integration and the problem of discrimination: Samsun case

The concept of migration is a complex phenomenon that has existed throughout history, expressing the displacement of societies from one place to another for certain reasons, affecting large masses. Migrant women are one of the most important groups affected by the inequalities that exist with this complex phenomenon. Migration processes of migrant women include the difficulties brought about by their gender identities as well as the difficulties brought about by migration. Migrant women's post-migration experiences include many difficulties such as gender, culture, social life and rights, working life, language barrier. This study aims to evaluate the daily life experiences of women who migrated to Turkey due to the civil war in Syria within the scope of gender inequality and ethnic-based discrimination. The content of the study consists of literature review, research method, findings section including the analysis of in-depth interviews with migrant women, conclusion and recommendations. The analysis of the collected data reveals in detail the post-migration experiences, difficulties, positive social support mechanisms, and the support mechanisms they need of the migrant women living in Samsun province who migrated from Syria. With this study, it is aimed to contribute to the literature to understand the difficulties experienced by migrant women based on their experiences, to cope with the difficulties they experience in this context and to develop the support mechanisms they need.
