Social skills of migrant students and adaptation to school

The study was conducted to determine the social skills and adaptation of immigrant students to school. The research was carried out in secondary schools in Mamak District of Ankara Ministry of National Education. The population of the study consisted of migrant secondary school students attending 5,6,7,8 classes. Purposeful sampling method was used in the research sample. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 257 students, 142 girls and 115 boys who were attending the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades of secondary schools affiliated to Mamak District Directorate of National Education in Ankara in 2018-2019 academic year. The research was designed in a quantitative design and carried out using a general screening model. Data were collected using Walker-McConnell Social Competence and School Adaptation Scale and personal information form. The data obtained were evaluated by one way anova test, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t values, Tukey test and correlation test. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that the immigrant students' social skills and adaptation to the school were at indecisive level. Gender girl with immigrant students is higher than the harmonization of male students social skills and school, the average age of the students increased social skills and adapt to increased school, parent education level increases social skills and increased compliance to the school, students lived while increasing social skills and in Turkey It was found that there was a positive difference as the socio - economic level, academic achievement and grade levels of the family increased. In addition, social skills and school adaptation of Syrian immigrant students were found to be higher than the other students. Keywords: Immigrant, School adaptation, Social skills, Student
