Reflection of migration on painting in Turkey through migrant artists and their works

In short, the act of individuals or communities leaving their place of residence and moving to another region or geography due to war, trade, economic, religious or cultural reasons is called migration. This process, which creates problems, differences or fusions that include acceptance or rejection, can also include many unknowns and turmoil for both the immigrant and the society that accepts these immigrants. This migration phenomenon creates a different situation for artistic individuals who are a part of the society and culture they come from. The creative world of the artist, who is caught between his own cultural-artistic identity on the one hand and the cultural identity of the society he has just adapted to and will become, on the other hand, may experience dilemmas, and in many cases, changes and differences may even occur. In this thesis study, first of all, the concept of migration, the reasons that cause migration and its consequences are investigated. In addition, it was discussed how the process of integration into society of immigrant artists living in Turkey and Turkish artists living abroad affected their cultural identities and creation of works of art in the context of migration-culture. Immigrant artists; In the plot of their lives before migration, during migration and after migration, their experiences in transition to the source/origin country, the country directly passed through and the destination countries, and how they transferred the artistic creation experiences they gained based on these experiences to their canvases in shape, color, form and composition were examined. It has been examined how immigrant artists dimensioned their works by combining artistic creation processes with the perception of space in the culture-art dimension of migration, what were the life philosophy and techniques they were inspired by while doing this dimensioning, and how they included and synthesized their own cultural codes in this process.
