Abstract (EN)

Nutritional human expenditure has a large footprint and fringes. The main route of nutrition is oral intake. Oral intake may be impaired in places such as diseases, treatments and hospitalization. As a result of the deterioration of oral intake, undesirable conditions such as malnutrition may occur. One of the patient groups where malnutrition can be seen frequently is intensive care patients. In our study, it was aimed to examine the effect of starting enteral nutrition within 24 hours on malnutrition, recovery and hospital stay in patients hospitalized in the chest intensive care unit.In this study, blood biochemical parameters of the participants, anthropometric measurements and malnutrition assessment forms such as MNA NRS-2002 were used to determine the nutritional status, malnutrition, recovery and hospital stay of patients aged 19-80 years in the chest intensive care unit. Most of the patients were male (57%) with a mean age of 62.2±13.68 years. 60.5% of individuals are hospitalized due to COPD.55.3% of the individuals participating in the study had an additional disease other than the reason for hospitalization. The mean BMI of the individuals participating in the study was 27.2±5.20 kg/m² and the mean upper middle arm circumference was 23.8±92 cm, and 80.7% of them had an upper middle arm circumference less than 25.4 cm.Of the individuals participating in the study, 57.1% of those who were hospitalized for less than 3 days, 47.2% of the patients who were hospitalized for 3-7 days, and 59.6% of the patients who were hospitalized for 7 days or more were aged 70 and over. While 55.3% of individuals had low hand grip strength before nutritional support, this value decreased to 38.6% after nutritional support. It was determined that there was a significant difference between the enteral nutrition support given in the first 24 hours of the individuals participating in the study and the duration of hospitalization (p<0.05). It was determined that starting enteral nutritional support within the first 24 hours of the individuals participating in the study had a statistical significance between survival and survival (p<0.05). The relationship between nutritional status and survival status of the individuals participating in the study was statistically significant (p<0.05).The relationship between the feeding groups according to the start time of enteral nutrition and the length of hospitalization of the individuals participating in the study was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05).The results of the study will scientifically prove the benefits of early enteral nutrition in terms of the parameters examined and will support this point of view in the field of health. Since starting enteral feeding will improve the current condition of the patient, the procedures to be performed on the patient will decrease and it will provide economic gain. It will provide psychological benefits to the patient and the cremated patients, with the reduction of the procedures to be applied and the decrease in the hospital period.
