Investigation of the relationship between self perception, social tendency and behavior problems in visual impaired and healthy 5-7. grade students

In this study, the relationship between the self-perception, social tendencies and behavioral problems in 5-7. grade students were examined. Total of 140 students aged between 11 and 13 years participated in study. In this study, socio-demographic information and data form, Social Tendencies Scale, Self-Perception Profile (BAP), and Strengths & Difficulties Scale were used. Examination based on the Social Tendencies Scale resulted in a statistically significant difference between gender and School Performance sub-dimension. In the case of visually impaired test group of students, a significant difference was found in Social Cohesion, School Performance, Family Relationships and Life Goals sub-dimensions. Except for the Tendency to Avoidance Drug sub scale, there was a significant difference in all other sub-scales of Social Tendencies Scale. And finally, a significant difference was found in all sub-dimensions in the case of class grade of participants. When evaluated according to the Self Perception Profile, a statistically significant difference was found between the gender and the scores of the scholastic competence sub-dimension. A significant difference was also found between the visually impaired status and healthy students in athletic competence domain. Additionally, a significant difference was found in all sub-dimensions according to the age and classes of the participants. Finally, according to the Strengths and Difficulties scale, a statistically significant difference was found between the gender of the participants and the Peer relationships problem subscale. No significant difference was found in Conduct problems sub-dimension according to the status of being visually impaired. According to age and grade variables, a significant difference was found in all sub-dimensions. Considering the correlation analysis between the scales, a strong negative correlation was found between the strengths and difficulties scale and the social tendencies scale. No correlation was found between other scales. Results were discussed in the light of recent Literature in the Discussion part.
