Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the job satisfaction and burnout levels of visual arts teachers. Also, it is analyzed whether the job satisfaction and burnout levels of visual arts teachers change in terms of gender, age, work region and similar socio-demographic variables or not. The population of the study consists of 69 visual arts teachers who work in public and private secondary and high schools in Bolu province and its districts in 2018-2019 education year. For data gathering, "Burnout Inventory" developed by Pines and adapted to Turkish by Burhan ÇAPRİ, "Job Satisfaction Scale" developed by Zeynep HAMAMCI, Yıldız KUZGUN and Seher AYDEMİR SEVİM through Herzberg's two-factor theory and "Personal Information Form" issued by the researcher herself. The burnout scale has two parts. 21 questions with 7 degree-measure in the first part were used to measure the job burnout. In the second part, the burnout scale- the short version- has 10 questions with 7 degree-measure. Job satisfaction scale has 20 questions with 5 degree-measure and measures the job satisfaction. Personal information form has 9 questions and helps learn demographic variables. Since the study groups of Turkish adaptation of the Burnout Scale and job satisfaction scale instruments are not similar to this study's target group, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted in order to obtain construct validity. SPSS computer sofware was used for statistical analyses. Frequency (f) and percentage (%) calculations were done for personal information analyses, and statistical analysis methods, t-tests and ANOVA were used to test the data gathered through questionnaire. One-way analysis of variance (F) was applied in order to determine whether there is a significant difference among factors which are thought to influence teachers' motivation. The results of the study show that the scores of job satisfaction scale and burnout scale reveal a significant difference in terms of some demographic variables. A significant difference was found between the work regions of visual arts teachers and their physical exhaustion variable. Within this context, the burnout level of teachers working in the city centre is higher than that of the teachers working in country sides. Besides, a significant difference was detected between graduation status and mental exhaustion of visual arts teachers and sub-dimensions of the whole scale. Accordingly, teachers with a bachelor's degree have a higher level of burnout than teachers with master's degree. According to another result, there is a significant difference between visual arts teachers' job satisfaction and job burnout. Concordantly, it was found that the more visual arts teachers' job satisfaction level gets, the less their burnout level becomes. A negative and moderate relationship was found between the scores of job satisfaction scale and the scores of 10 and 21 question-burnout scales.
