Özet (EN)

The dialectic of life and death in visual arts, as one of the fundamental elements of human experience, draws from the reality that death is inevitable within the natural flow of life, while emphasizing life as a significant value. Artists address death in various ways, highlighting the transience of life and the human struggle for survival. Additionally, their works allow people to confront their mortality, aiding in accepting death as a natural part of life. When the concept of death is viewed as an existing issue in contemporary societies, it is observed to correspond to anxiety and fear. Psychological fears and concerns about death underlie the background of fear and anxiety. Despite living in an idealized society where infinite diversity exists and everything is readily accessible, unhappiness, anxiety, and consequently fear prevail. It is possible to think about this fear indirectly as a result of human existence within the context of the struggle for survival and the dialectic of life and death.Navigating the delicate line between death and life allows for a demonstration of strength against death and supports vitality, thus creating this artistic dialectic. Human life is unique, and revealing it requires resistance. The tragedy of continuing to live knowing one will die contains an element of artistry. The anxiety of existence encourages humans to breathe, create, debate, and form the art of living. This psychology, underlying many works from prehistory to the present, is a practical consequence of art. In addition to psychological and philosophical implications, artworks also possess a sociological dimension. Artists produce works influenced not only by individual crises and lives but also by sociological events and disasters. In this study, artists who have internalized the life-death dualism within a sociological context, spanning the 19th and 20th centuries, are evaluated to reach a conclusion.
