The effect of emotional awareness and expression level of the couples who got married after flirting or via blind date on marrital satisfaction

The main purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of emotional awareness and expression levels of the couples who got married after flirting or via blind date on marital satisfaction. For this purpose 'The Marriage Life Scale', 'The Emotional Expression Scale' and 'The Personal Information Form' which is prepared by the researcher were applied to 206 individuals who were chosen randomly on İstanbul, Sakarya and Kocaeli cities between the dates of Semtember 2016 and March 2017. The analysis of data is performed via SPSS 20.0 program. Following the analysis and evalutation it was found that the alexithymia, the marital satisfaction and emotional expression scores of individuals who got married via flirting were higher than the individuals who got married via blind date. However a meaningful difference could not be found statistically. Additionally it was shown that there was a meaningful difference on childbearing 'Toronto Alexithymia Scale'. Accordig to this analysis the 'Toronto Alexithymia Scale' scores of parents who have children were highter then the parents who did not have any children. When the marital satisfaction relations with several variables were examined, a meaningful statistically significant difference could not be found. When we analyzed the 'Emotional Expression Scale' the ones who had masters degree had incredibly higher 'Emotional Expression Scale' scores. In addition, individuals who had no children had higher 'Emotional Expression Scale' scores when compared to the other groups. These findings were discussed wiht recent studies.
