The place of typographic elements to provide visual unity of advertisement signs in magazines in graphic education

The present study aims to put forward the place typographic elements to provide visual unity of advertisement designs within magazines in graphic education. For the advertisements in the magazines which were prepared with typographic elements and were randomly chosen, a graphical analysis form developed by the researcher and with the views of five academicians who are experts of the field was used. The graphical analysis form consists of criteria considered to be important to provide visual unity such as composition, the relation of writing-ground, spaces, rate- proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis and permanence. The analysis of data gathered from advertisements in magazines is done with qualitative research method and interpreted.After the evaluation of findings, it is found out that the headline which forms the typographic element in advertisements in magazines wasn?t successfully transferred to the following text, the importance of subtitle was shifted to the slogan, and the text was written with small prints which badly affect the readability of the text. The emphasis was given through the color of slogan and writings. Row spaces and letter spaces which are two of the typographic elements was properly designed. However, the method of finding an original design wasn?t preferred in terms of composition design.According to result of survey, it is found that many of the advertisement designs in magazines which were examined were not sufficient to convey the expected massage to the target group precisely and effectively.Key Words: Graphic education, typography, advertisement
