Prof. Dr. Perihan ARTUT (Dinç) : Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin BİLGİÇ In this thesis we studied the efficiency of certain semigroups. These semigroups are CL" (a chain with n elements), CLm x CL" and CLm". We have also shown that we can embed any semigroup into an inefficient semigroup. We have taken two efficient Rees matrix semigroups and we have constructed an efficient Rees matrix semigroup which is isomorphic to the direct product of these semigroups. We have considered the direct product of two semilattices with zero elelment and examined its efficiency. Key Words: Semigroup, monoid, semigroup presentation, efficiency. II
