It is certainly known that children?s literature has also an important place in education process which starts with family then continues with school. Written works for children both utilize children?s growth and provide value judgment and good manners that will guide them all life long by enriching their feelings and ideas.In preschool period, children, who meet books and literature by means of tales, begin to like stories in school period. With the help of these stories, they get to know the life and recognize possible problems and their solutions owing to cause and effect relation. Stories are very effective for children to internalize social principles and values.Love of nature and environmental consciousness are the most necessary values that children should internalize when they are very young because destruction of nature, affecting all living beings and humans, becomes one of the most serious problems nowadays. That?s why we should make children comprehend that the features of nature?s living or lifeless elements, the bonds and results between them, nature has a secret balance, nature doesn?t belong to us and we are just a part of nature, we need and depend on nature. Moreover children should know that all living beings are linked to each other, natural resources might end one day, urbanization, industrialization and consumption cause ecological problems and these problems are prevented and solved only by humans.In my work, children?s stories of Gülsüm Cengiz, who has created many tales, stories and stage plays for children, are examined and evaluated according to improving love of nature and environmental consciousness. The children?s stories of Gülsüm Cengiz are thought to be effective for developing love of nature and environmental consciousness in childhood.
