Abstract (EN)
Throughout history, representations of various cultures have gained meaning in art through images. These images have assumed the role of the carrier of the cultural memory that traces the period. The values that have been repeated and remembered over the years have led to the formation of cultural memory and have played an important role in the expansion of social consciousness. In this context, the cultural image appears in works of art as imaginary indicators recorded in the memory of the human mind with concepts such as code, image and memory. In the Master's Thesis titled "The Use of Cultural Codes in Contemporary Art Perceptual Effects of İmages", how the concept of cultural image is represented in art is explained by examining the data and form elements of contemporary art and selected exemplary artists while investigating them from the aesthetics and mental point of view. The thesis consists of three main sections. In this direction, firstly, the concept of image, which is an important indicator of the art of painting, and the relationship of the position, form and meanings of the image in art with other concepts were investigated and their perceptual effects in art were examined with visuals. In the second part, the broad definition of culture is mentioned, the formation of cultural images and their reflections in art are examined. In the third part of the thesis, the obtained data were examined through the concepts of indicators, cultural images, objects and metaphors etc. in contemporary art works of art and artist approaches, and visual examinations were made on the aspects of the representation of cultural image in art in the context of coding.
