Abstract (EN)
Our country lies on an active fault line, where huge physical and meta-physical sufferings take place, due to earthquakes. Furthermore, experts and academicians are predicting high magnitude earthquakes, in the near future. Deep economic, psychological and social problems arise in areas, where such earthquakes take place. Due to the convergence of some earthquake and eclipse (sun and moon) dates, many researchers have questioned whether the earthquakes are triggered by eclipses. Today, efforts are underway for predicting earthquakes by using modern technologies; in order to diminish the damages suffered. The aim of prediction work is to minimize the life and property losses, by generating earthquake warnings, before they actually happen. Nowadays, real tie data is collected both for earthquakes and eclipses. The presence and availability of such data make detailed work easier, on either phenomenon or a combined research, compared to the data-scarcity of old days. The aim of our present work is to find out if there is a relationship between earthquakes and eclipses, by studying their combined data. Cross tables have been formed using the detailed earthquake and eclipse data, belonging to the period of years between 1970 and 2019. The combined tables with inputs related to earthquakes have been studied and various statistical corelation parameters have been calculated. The three parameters total solar eclipse date and projection, earthquake date and location, plate structure that have been focused on, provide the three dimensionality of our work. According to the obtained results, the number of earthquakes above a certain magnitude has a correlation on the geological movements and the tetronic plates, over (or opposite side) which the umbra (path of totality of a Total Solar Eclipse) passes. During some periods close to Total Solar Eclipses, a larger number of earthquakes have been recorded on the hemisphere where the umbra has been observed; or at the opposite side. No correlation has been detected between the earthquakes and moon eclipses. It is believed that pointing at the existence and calculating the ratios will shed light on the earthwquake prediction and warning generation research.
