Quran-centred solutions to modern family problems

The family institution, which is the cornerstone of society, has undergone various social, cultural and religious transformations throughout history. In pre-Islamic Arab society, during the Jahiliyyah period, the family structure was based on male dominance, where the rights of women and children were disregarded and unfair practices were widespread in matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance. As it has throughout history, the institution of the family today is deeply affected by individual and social changes. In the modern era, factors such as the separation of the concept of freedom from a sense of responsibility, the erosion of privacy boundaries by digitalisation, the blurring of gender roles, and the strengthening of individualistic tendencies are causing serious fractures in the family structure. Similar problems such as injustice, rights violations, lack of love, and irresponsibility were also observed in the family institution during the period when the Qur'an was revealed. The Qur'an provided solutions to these problems through the principles of justice, mercy, mutual rights, and responsibilities. This thesis aims to examine contemporary family problems in light of the principles offered by the Qur'an and to develop new solutions within a framework of moral continuity. The study employs qualitative research methods; classical and modern exegetical sources, hadith collections, and sociological and psychological literature have been evaluated together.
