The Discussion of culture factor in user and designer interaction for todays house representation at İzmit example

As a result of rapid urbanization in the last 40-50 years, people in Turkey had been directed to live in houses that in most cases these houses had been established without socioeconomic and physical characteristics of people and their natural and artificial environment being taken into account. Numerous excellences of Traditional Turkish Houses in which Turkish people used to live till 70-80 years back from now had began not much to be demanded at the new representetions, single type housmg plan applications had been rapidly spreaded without considering family and society structures. Starting from these hypothesises; originalities of Traditional Turkish Houses; structures of the family and society; meaning, importance, characteristics and variations of cultures, principal factor which creates a society from individual are being considered as a factors in separate sections efecting formation and flourishing of residence. İn the first section introduction to the subject is done and the purpose of the paper is indicated as it is necessary to produce houses which are well adjusted to people, answers thier expectations and fits their way of living. İn the study, some basic factors which Turks and Turkish family attributed gread importance have been stresed such as secrecy, physical area, the limit of sovereignty and neighbourhood. İn addition to this, some previous studies are mentioned and others are listed in bibliography section. İn the second section; "culture" the main motive of the subject of this theses is taken in hand and being examined in detail with its definitions in literature, its classifications in accordance with different view some of its characteristics and principles and sociophsicologic and physical factors which establish its components. Positive and negative reflections of interaction between different cultures is also touched in this section. İn section three, relations between housing, culture and social structure of society is discussed together with the historical flounsing of housing and housing from yesterday to today in Turkey in seperate headings subsequently, the extent of housmg problem, urbanization itself, old Turkish settlements and migration as main housing problem stated in this study. İn the next section it is intended to present "İzmit central township", which was selected as defined area for the apphcation of this thesis, in detail; through studying historical development inside the margins of the city of Kocaeli, natural and artificial environment together with socioeconomic structure. This section also includes some plans of traditional Turkish houses, particularities of old type of city settlement and researches about housmg applications for today. XVİn section five, studies with architects and users presented with the help of different lists/tables. Separately, in results and proposals section, factors which has to be taken into accountfor doing user friendly house representation is defined as data about environment and users; together with the necessity of obtaining these data and using them in representation process.
