Intergenerational religious learning and interpretation methods today: A socio-logical study

This research explains the causes of intergenerational conflict, particularly in the context of religion, as technological advancements, rapid access to information, the older generation's disinterest in innovation, and the younger generation's curious and inquisitive attitude. A semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection method, and the data obtained was evaluated through observation, content, and discourse analysis. The research findings reveal that religion plays an important role in individual and social life for both young and old generations, but the nature of its impact varies from generation to generation. While the older generation adopts a more traditional and ritual-oriented approach, the younger generation has a more questioning and individualistic under standing of religion. Differences are also observed in the processes of acquiring and interpreting religious knowledge; young people mostly acquire information through family, relatives, social media, and the internet, while older people learn their religious knowledge from their parents and the mosque. The research highlights the importance of prejudices and gaps in knowledge transfer in intergenerational communication. Social projects based on healthy communication, empathy, and tolerance, interactive training, and digital tools stand out as effective methods for reducing generational differences. While adherence to religious rituals is higher among older generations, the individual search for meaning and the moral dimension are at the forefront among younger generations. Religion maintains its importance for both generations, but its form and content are undergoing transformation. Accurately analyzing this transformation is crucial for both the social sciences and religious education.
