Nowadays democratic movements in Middle East and the Northern Africa: Libya and Egypt examples

The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the reasons and results of mass demonstrations that firstly breaking out in Tunisia and then spreading to other countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa within the context of Egypt and Libya. In this respect, in the first part of this study composed of three sections, it is studied why the mass demonstrations that have influence in the said regions firstly emerged in Tunisia and underlying reasons of outbreak of mass riots in aforementioned state. In the second part, various developments will be discussed in related with mass demonstrations in Egypt, second destination of democratic movements following Tunisia and the key Arab country in the region. Moreover, aforesaid events will be analyzed in parallel with phases beginning from the Post Second World War era up to date after Egypt's independence and in the light of this events, the analysis of these developments will be carried out. In the last part of this study, impacts of said democratic movements emerging after Egypt on Libya one of the foremost countries in the Northern Africa will be dealt. As the process beginning from the post colonial period in which Egypt and Libya gained their independence up to Arab Spring is to be analyzed, both countries had been governed by anti-democratic regimes. From this perspective, the living conditions of the society lack of basic human rights, democracy and equality as well as exposure of financial difficulties are the main reasons of outbreak of these democratic developments within their experience of independence more than fifty years. One should not be forgotten that the results of the said democratic movements cannot be envisaged in the short term exactly. Although this process is to be regarded as positively in terms of results, it should not be overlooked that these developments will have some risks leading to challenges for aforementioned states in the forthcoming periods.
