Özet (EN)
Changing technology closely influences the textile sector identified with industrialisation to a great extent. Historically, early mechanisation almost coincided with textile automation. On the other hand, the fact that block printing used to be conducted initially leads us to the question "technique" or "art"? Applied science of textile combines art and technique in a common denominator, which causes leading companies to be interested in designing processes. Currently-used print techniques have evolved to become contemporary thanks to facilities provided for designers by researchers, however none of them is independent of what is called traditional methods. Starting with those traditional methods, this study aims at establishing the evolutionary direction of both artistic designs and industrial processes as well as of the related research. İt is also possible to see even indirectly the influences of post modernist processes and approaches in printing design, the most typical example of which is the pluralistic and eclectic approach. Occasionally, one encounter traditional or hand-made designs in the collection of a fashion designer, while one can well meet different textile patterns produced by mass-production even though they were designed with hand-made approaches in origin. İt is obviously necessary to know in what way traditional and technical processes influence each other and converge in what features. For example, an ikat technique can well be tried in industrial processes in practice rather than in a traditional one, or a typical appearance created by design or pattern spontaneously can be obtained with different printing methods as well. Textile and designing companies introduce their products under various names or brands, therefore it will probably save us from confusion to be aware of the subject matter thoroughly. For this purpose, it seems necessary to correlate the associated terms, techniques, traditional textiles, and characteristic designs and patterns with their corresponding functions, and evaluate the related concepts in the right way using new approaches. VIThis thesis aims at helping those related to artistic works by means of techniques and conscious approaches in a way to lead them in what they wish to do and their search of art and sophisticated methodologies as well.
