Migration from Georgia to Anatolia and Turkey's settlement policy (1921-1938)

In this study, migrations from Georgia to Turkey between 1921 and 1938 were discussed. Given its geographical location in the Caucasus, it serves as a bridge connecting Anatolia and Central Asia. Due to its strategically importance, the region was invaded by various civilizations throughout history. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Tsarist Russia and the Ottoman Empire established the dominance in the region. One of the fronts that the Ottoman Empire fought during the First World War was the Eastern Front. On the Eastern Front, the Georgians, Armenians and the Turkish forces who fought against Tsarist Russia won the the battle. With the signing of the Moscow Treaty on March 6, 1921, Turkey left Batumi to Georgia and withdrew its forces from the region. After the Moscow Treaty, the Turkish-Islamic people living in the region found the solution to migrate to Turkey. One of the most important reasons of the migration is the Soviet Union of Georgia and the intimidation policies applied to the Turkish-Islamic people living in the region. As Georgian chauvinism increased, unrest in the region increased. Acarlar, Abkhazians and Ossetians were granted the right to Autonomous Republic, while the Turks in Georgia were ignored. The Turkish-Islamic states had the most beautiful sights and geographies and the world's richest mineral resources are in this region. The leading intellectuals were arrested, deported or murdered. The Turkish-Islamic community living in the region had no choice but to emigrate. Turkish authorities generally welcomed these immigrants. The necessary assistance was sought for the immigrants and refugees who wanted to settle in Turkey. Immigrants and refugees have been settled in various provinces of Turkey.
