Pigeon Necklace translation comparisons

Why is there more than one translation of a book? Why is one of these translations read more than the others? Is the translation the more read the better? It is possible to say that there is no single answer to these questions. However, the first thing that comes to mind is "Are the qualities of the translations different from each other?" there is a question. This research has been prepared in pursuit of this question. Three different translations of the Pigeon Collar book written by Ibn Hazm about love (Mehmet Hakkı Seçin, Selahattin Hacıoğlu and Sare Öztürk) were examined in terms of quality. This review was carried out according to Nida's translation theory, which is dynamic and formal equivalence criterion. Instead of examining all the translations, only 100 couplets in the source text, selected by me according to certain criteria, were examined. In this study, besides ensuring the dynamic and formal equivalence of translations, their poetic aspects are also examined superficially. In the translations of the translators, it was checked whether the couplets provided the poetic aspect of alliteration, assonance and rhyme. It has been determined that the translations made by Sucin provide more dynamic equivalence and bring poetry to the fore. It was seen that the translations made by Hacıoğlu provided more formal equivalence, while Öztürk preferred the free poetic translation style. In this study, it was understood that the translation of poetry is more difficult than prose. The fact that the source text was in Arabic and the translators' competencies in both languages played an important role in this difficulty. Despite this difficulty, it has been seen that successful translations have been made.
