Psychological needs of the students having fine-arts training

This study is intended to find out the psychological needs of the, students having fine-arts training under the following items: their term, or year (1-4), sex, department, settlement, place, parents' education level and parental attitudes. This study covers 23 1 samples selected from the first and last-year students at the departments of Painting and music at training of fine art Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty Fine Art and at the departments of music, paiting, theatre and graphics at Faculty of Fine Arts. The questionnaire was carried out in 2001-2002 year; 131 of the samples were female while 100 were male. The data regarding the students' psychological needs were gathered by means of Edwards Personal Choice Inventory as developed by Edwards and Personal Identity form as developed by ILGAR. The data acquired were evaluated by using arithmetical mean value, standard deviation, t-test, variation analysis. According to the data acquired, it seems obvious that students status as the first or last year student, their settlement places and their fathers' educational level are not influential on their psychological needs however, their sex, their mothers' educationalVII level and their fathers' attitude are relatively influential, while their mothers' attitude is influential. The wide spectrum of their psychological needs as regards their calssroom and departments reveals that the personal structures of the students having fine-arts training are almost similar in many ways. The data concerning the sex show that male students develop a need for affairs with the apposite sex, while female students have a need for change. However, most of these needs do not show difference. Parental attitudes as perceived seem to influince the students' psychological needs. According to the mother's attitude, the children of the indifferent mothers have lower psychological needs in terms of "success, order, closeness' however, they present high values in their needs for "self-accusation" and "aggresiveness".
