Investigation of the various dimensions of teachers and students' views intended for instrument education in music departments of fine arts high school

This work is a research in scanning model to find out the condition of instrument training in Fine Art High Schools in practice in aspects of physical condition, curriculum, teacher and student according to teachers'and students' view. The research includes the views of students and teachers of Fine Art High Schools' music departments from Çorum, Tokat, Ankara, Eskişehir, Balıkesir, Kırklareli, Mersin, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Iğdır, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Denizli and Kütahya on the subject of instrument classes in 2015-2016 educational year. Research universe consists of 1998 teachers and 13.206 students. Its sample is formed by 99 teachers working in Fine Art High Schools, picked from all the regions of Turkey, two schools from each making 14 schools, and 798 students included from each grade level. As a data gathering tool, "license teacher and student instrument training survey form" is adapted and applied-testing its reliability and validity- in order to determine the views of students and teachers in Fine Art High Schools on instrument training applications. All of these statistical analyses have been performed on SPSS 23 program. Average and standard deviation values have been calculated in the same time from the frequency and percentages of the answers given by participants to the survey items. Differences among teachers' and students' evaluations related to participants' each survey items and total scores of physical, program, teachers and students has been analyzed via t-test for independent samples. According to the research results, the number of rooms is not sufficient, the students do not use these instrument rooms in schools appropriately, teachers and students think facilities of instrument maintenance are inadequate and music books in school libraries are the insufficiencies encountered. It's been expressed that teachers think the number of classes are not enough in aspect of the program, the effect of the lesson to the total grade average is deficient, they do not agree having classes with 2 students, teachers and students think lesson program can partly respond to personal differences. According to the data obtained from teachers, students partly comprehend what they are taught during class, the number of instruments students have is limited; musical hearing outcomes for the lesson are inadequate. As to students, teachers partly have sufficient knowledge for the subjects that are taught in class, they can partly relate the lessons with the theoretical music lessons that they have taken, they partly have the knowledge about aims of the lesson, they partly could perform the development which program anticipate, they partly study in a scheduled and planned way for the lesson, they partly hinder practicing during holidays, they partly play the instrument out of the class. According to "physical condition" results, with the help of a partnering project, Fine Art High Schools should be provided with buildings that have a workshop which can make instrument maintenance classes efficient, enough number of large classes planned for collective lessons, rooms with isolation and heating that can meet teachers' and students' needs. Lack of source books in the libraries should be completed by means of a project or reserving an amount of allowance that has been given to the schools. According to "program" results, the class time that's been devoted to instrument classes should be increased to 2 class hours in 9th,10th,11th and 12th grades, the obligation of having instrument classes with at least 2 students should be canceled, after revising the program, a new program that regards personal differences should be prepared. "The teacher" should do out-of-class courses and exercises to compensate students' weaknesses, contact with musical hearing teacher and try to build up a common lesson plan to eliminate weaknesses. Schools should provide instruments for students with financial difficulties and so, the loss of time in the beginning of the semester and disruption of education can be prevented furthermore, financial resources should be provided via contacting benefactor people and institutions. For summer holidays, facilities to exercise at school should be increased for the students who do not have instrument training ambient at home hereby; they can maintain their own training until new semester. Teachers should increase the number of activities and serve as a model with participating activities vigorously. According to the analysis and synthesis that's been made from these views, it has been expected from the researchers, for new researches, to serve creative and realistic resolution advisory; and cooperation of principals, teachers, students and parents to implement these proposals.
