Abstract (EN)

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many applied courses along with theoretical courses had to be given through distance education. When the literature regarding the teaching of an applied course through distance education is examined, there are research results that show that there are problems due to the theoretical-oriented conduct of applied courses, which affect student performance negatively. In this study, qualitative research was applied in order to determine the opinions of Fine Arts High School Painting and Music Teachers on the effectiveness of applied courses in the distance education process. In this study, phenomenology method was used as the qualitative research pattern, document analysis and method of semi-structured interview was applied. The content analysis technique was done to analyze the data obtained from this research. The research group consists of 7art teachers and 20 music teachers who works at Bursa Zeki Müren Anatolian Fine Arts High School. According to the findings obtained from the interviews with the Fine Arts High School Painting and Music Department teachers, during the pandemic period, the practical lessons held online were not as efficient as face-to-face education. Considering the connection and technical problems experienced during the lessons, it was determined that distance education platforms were not sufficient for applied music and painting lessons and this situation negatively affected the education process. It was concluded that a special application should be developed in order to conduct distance education, otherwise it shouldn't be preferred for applied courses except in compulsory cases. As a result, teachers wanted to continue the training of applied courses face to face in the post-pandemic period. Factors such as the integration of distance education into the field of visual arts education and music, the development of field-specific software programs, the updating of the technological equipment used, and the synchronous education may affect the students' perception of the system more positively in similar situations in the future. Improvements to be made in internet connection and infrastructure in problematic areas will enable distance education to reach more students.
