Fine arts high school students' opinions on the effect of History of Turkish Islamic Arts course on their art orientation

People's way of expressing themselves through art has been a method used for centuries. This form of artistic expression is basically under the influence of the person's chosen art and tendencies. Although there are many factors that determine artistic orientation, it is an indisputable fact that the content of the courses given in art education, practice courses and art history influence this orientation. The art field to be focused on is suitable for the individual and is an important process for the problems that may be experienced in the future. Considering this situation, it is aimed to collect data about the factors that play a role in students' art orientations, in determining the field of art they choose, and the basic criteria they use with the influence of the History of Turkish Islamic Arts course when determining their artistic practice areas. In this research, it was aimed to obtain the opinions of Diyarbakır Fine Arts High School Painting Department students regarding the influence of Turkish Islamic Arts History on their artistic orientation. At the same time, the factors affecting art orientations, the effects of workshops and Fine Arts High School Painting Department courses are investigated. Within the scope of the research, in order to determine the factors affecting artistic orientations and to measure these determinations, a survey was conducted on 23 students studying in the 11th grade and 13 students studying in the 12th grade of Diyarbakır Fine Arts High School Painting Department and their opinions were obtained. An interview form was also applied to 6 teachers teaching at the same school. With the data obtained from the survey and interview form, the opinions of the students about the direction they will evolve in the artistic field and the reasons for this evolution were evaluated. The research universe consists of Fine Arts High School students. The sample within the universe is Diyarbakır Fine Arts High School Painting Department students. The necessary data related to the research consists of literature review, the questionnaire applied to the 11th and 12th grade students of Fine Arts High School and the teacher interview form, and the findings obtained from the data collection tools by the researcher. In the research, it was seen that the effect of the History of Turkish Islamic Arts course on students' art orientation was low. It has been shown that various factors are effective in their orientation, and the most influential factor is artistic practices at school. Teachers, on the other hand, stated that students' interests and wishes are decisive in their choices.
