Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal the density of the court in the city of Rodosçuk between the years of 985-986 H. 1577-1578 M. to determine what kind of documents were kept and to evaluate the documents by examining them in terms of subject. When the literature is examined, it is seen that only a few of the 244 Rodosçuk Sharia Registers that have survived to the present day have been transcribed and examined, and that there was a deficiency in this area. One of the aims is to contribute to the literature by filling this deficiency and to provide resources for those working in the field. In the study, the Rodosçuk Sharia Record No. 1526, which is located in the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, was obtained and transcribed. After the transcription was done, the intensity of the court, types of documents and the subjects of the documents were examined based on the document samples and finally presented as numerical data. While the cases were divided according to their types, those sent from the center to the provinces were examined under the title of copy, and the documents prepared by Rodosçuk court officials were examined under the title of minutes. By examining the copies and minutes, the court density was indicated, and the documents were evaluated under two headings, economic and judicial, and shown in tables and graphs. In this way, the registry was introduced and evaluations were made based on the data obtained. Thanks to the introduction of the registry, socio-economic information specific to the region and period was obtained and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the month of Zilkade in 985 and Muharram in 986 were the busiest months in the court. The document type that took up the most space in the registry was the minutes. On the other hand, it was seen that economic cases were more prevalent, while judicial cases (theft, assault, murder) were rarely encountered. It has been determined that debt-related cases constitute more than half of the book in economic cases. It can be said that the tendency to borrow money was high in the public for the period.
