Abstract (EN)

The subject of this study is the presentation of highway traffic events with 5 and more fatalities in the newspapers of Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Sabah and Yeni Şafak during 2018 in Turkey. In the study, we use "macro-micro structure" method included the critical discourse analysis model developed by Teun Adrian van Dijk. The study includes the elements of critical discourse analysis with the theoretical basis and the method and the way of analysis appropriate to this basis. For this purpose, we first explained van Dijk's approach and then introduce van Dijk's model as a main method; finally we carried out the analysis in parallel to the analysis implemented in 1991. The results of study showed that van Dijk's critical discourse approach was valid and it was appropriate to examine Turkish news. Also, the study has demonstrated that there was no difference in the analysis of the news among the newspapers, and that the four newspapers made ideological production in the discourse of the news and they possessed all the features of van Dijk's macro-micro model. Therefore, we conclude that there were problems in the presentation of the news. The warnings to news based on the objectivity are no longer applies. Instead, as is emphasized in the study, what it is important is to reveal how ideological production is done through the news.
