Summary method in hadith literatüre: Ikhtisar Ulum-al-Hadith

Every dicipline has basic recourses books. In hadith method, one of them is Ibn al-Salah's Ulum al-Hadith. Making use of the subject book was difficult because of its extent and it adresses specific people. This situation made neccesary studies on ikhtisar (abbreviation) and sharh (paraphrase) about the subject book. Being have an important place among the abbreviation studies about Ibn al-Salah's Ulum al-Hadith is the reason of that we base to Ibn Kathir's Ikhtisar Ulum al-Hadith, in our study. We tried to detect the properties of abbreviation method in literature and effects of abbreviation methods on the main book. In terms of compositions and contents, there are some similarities and some diversities between the two books; Ikhtisar Ulum al-Hadith and Ulum al-Hadith. This situation brings out this question: Are mukhtasars if an abstract of origin books or if indipendent works? We have tried to answer this question in our study. Within the same purpose we have analyzed other mukhtasars of Ulum al-Hadith.
