Body and family privacy in hadiths

Our religion, which considers the human being as the most honored of all creation, aims to protect the individual's body, dignity, personal rights, and the institution of the family, and in this regard, regards privacy as one of its fundamental values. Bodily and family privacy are critically important for both preserving personal integrity and ensuring the healthy continuation of social order. However, in modern life today, we frequently witness and hear about violations of bodily and family privacy in our society. In this thesis, privacy as one of the core concepts of Islamic thought, is examined in the context of body and family through the lens of hadith and the Sunnah. While the Qur'an emphasizes issues such as modesty home privacy, and the protection of private space, the hadiths offer important messages that clarify and reinforce these principles. The Prophet Muhammad frequently emphasized the responsibility to protect individuals' bodies, homes, and private spaces, and indicated that privacy is not only a personal right but also a societal responsibility. Bodily privacy is explained in the hadiths through topics such as modest dress, boundaries of gaze and speech, while family privacy is addressed through home organization, the principle of seeking permission and the protection of personal boundaries. In this study, the place of privacy in individual and social life is analyzed within the framework of classical sources and modern approaches, and it is questioned how the Islamic understanding of privacy can offer solutions to contemporary problems such as digitalization and the violation of private life. The findings reveal that privacy is not only a religious command but also a human value. Bodily and family privacy, as reflected in the hadiths of the Prophet, are symbols of value and carry an inviolable and respectable status. Based on relevant hadiths, this study identifies the relationship between body, family, and privacy, the importance and nature of bodily and family privacy, the principles and guidelines for its protection, and the penalties for privacy violations.
