Those who are qualified in the hadiths as "cannot smell the scent of heaven"

Paradise is mentioned in many verses of the Qur'an and described with different blessings. To reach its endless rewards, people must undergo a test in this worldly life. The rewards in Paradise will vary according to a person's deeds. Thrones, palaces, and rivers are among the many blessings given as a reward for good deeds in this world. This study examines the hadiths containing the phrase "will not smell the fragrance of Paradise." Some narrations indicate that the fragrance of Paradise can be sensed from distances of forty, seventy, or even five hundred years away. However, certain actions will prevent a person from smelling this fragrance at all. The purpose of this study is to analyze the deeds mentioned within these hadiths. Being deprived of the fragrance of Paradise is a warning for those who do not fulfill their moral and religious responsibilities. The important point here is not only the deprivation itself but also the actions that cause it. This research discusses the opinions of Al-Jarḥ wa al-Taʿdīl (criticism and Justification) scholars about the narrators in the chains of transmission of the hadiths in which this expression is mentioned. It further evaluates the authenticity and classification of these hadiths regarding acceptance and rejection. Additionally, the study aims to examine the behaviors described in these hadiths and how scholars have interpreted them.
