Abstract (EN)
One of the most defining characteristics of Islam is its monotheistic nature, known as tawhid. The principle of tawhid is emphasized throughout the Qur'an and the Hadiths, while its opposite, shirk (associating partners with Allah), is condemned as a major theological deviation. Prophets were sent to eliminate shirk and establish tawhid. This study examines the concepts of shirk and mushrik (one who commits shirk) within the Hadith tradition, focusing particularly on narrations found in the Kutub al-Tis'ah. These concepts are crucial for understanding both personal faith and broader religious consciousness in Islam. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter discusses the nature and types of shirk, along with related theological terms. The second chapter explores how shirk is addressed in the Hadiths, the Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) efforts against it, and a comparison with Qur'anic discourse. The third chapter analyses the term mushrik, the Prophet's attitude toward polytheists, potential causes of shirk, and prophetic warnings meant to prevent it. The study concludes that shirk is the greatest obstacle to tawhid, affecting not only belief but also moral and social life. A correct understanding of shirk and mushrik is essential for building a sound Islamic worldview. Awareness of actions or expressions that may lead to shirk remains vital for contemporary Muslims.
