IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF KALAM.Zeliha ŞEKERMaster Thesıs, Basıc Islamic Science DepartmentAdvisor : Halife KESKİNJanuary 2007, 101 pagesIn this study, we are trying to put forward the topics about kalam in the well-knowncommentary book called ?Hak Dini Kuran Dili-Religion Of Truth, The Language OfHoly Koran- ? written by Elmalılı Muhammed Hamdi Yazır who is one of the mostimportant Islamic savants of the recent years by pointing out the opinions of the otherkalam authors and accentuating the sides particular to himself.The main topics of kalam are; theology, prophecy and knowledge about after-life. İn fact these topics are sufficiantly explained in the holy koran and sunnah whichare the main sources of the islâmic belief but arguments in the field of akaid( knowledge of belief) have occured because of either religious and philosophical effectsor sosio-cultural reasons. We are finding out the answers about these arguments in thebook written by Yazır which is the subject of our study.While explaining the theory of knowledge, Yazır agrees with the general opinionof kalam. Notifying the importance of mind, he has agreed on its limits. He putsforward his opinions about faith and islâm in the frame of Ehl-i sunnet.In the chapter ?theology? it is maintained that it is impossible to explain the existance ofthe universe rationally without accepting the presence and oneness of Allah and putforward the dilemmas of materialism. Furthermore, pointing out Allah?s existance andbeing not born, it is explained that trinity is incorrect.In the chapter ?prophecy? it is maintained that prophets have been selected byAllah and have been distinguished from others with their superior nature. İn the chapter?knowledge of after-life? it is mentioned that the conditions of the after-life can only beknown with information.?Key Words: Allah, proof of God, knowledge, faith, universe, prophecy, miracle,after-life
