Abstract (EN)

Hand-knotted carpets have always attracted attention and have been bought and sold in our country. As a result of intensive production of millions of square meters dating back to the past years, there are large quantities of old hand-knotted carpets in Turkey. It is thought that these carpets do not fit the interior decorations today, and the carpets are therefore inactive in the houses. Vintage and patchwork carpets, the main source of which are old hand-knotted carpets, where carpets are processed and re-evaluated, emerged in Turkey in the 2000s. These carpets, which have turned into a great trend, have increased their popularity and have affected the entire carpet industry in terms of design. Manufacturers, who already master yarn dyeing, repair and carpet aging techniques in Aksaray's Sultanhanı district, which is considered one of the centers for carpet repair all over the world, have made their district one of the world's centers for vintage and patchwork carpet production. In this thesis titled "A Current Trend in the Carpet Industry: Re-evaluation of Old Hand-Knotted Carpets", the place of old hand-knotted carpets in the sector and the processes applied to old hand-knotted carpets in order to transform them into vintage and patchwork carpets are examined. It is aimed to create an academic resource that provides basic information on this subject, which has not been examined in detail before, by investigating the beginning, development process and current effects of this trend in the carpet industry.
